Volunteer with SCORE | Various Opportunities
Help People Live Their Dreams
SCORE volunteers are successful business owners, executives, or experts with real-world experience in every sector. Each one of them knows how good it feels to help others achieve their dreams.
At SCORE, you have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the life of a small business owner or an aspiring entrepreneur. You can do this by sharing your skills, knowledge and experience in a number of volunteer roles.
MENTOR
Mentors are trained and proficient in guiding our diverse client base on business basics. They are given the training and resources to mentor any client including existing businesses and start-up clients. This role works directly with clients to help assess business needs and to guide clients toward successful solutions. They also help connect clients with subject matter experts, SCORE templates and tools and community resources. Learn more about becoming a mentor.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT
A subject matter expert (SME) has deep knowledge and experience in a specific business topic. They assist clients when those skills are needed and may be lead mentors and teachers in their specialties. Additionally, they may co-mentor under the supervision of a certified Mentor. To be onboarded as a subject matter expert, SCORE will ask to discuss your background and experience on the topic and may ask for proof of certifications or degrees on your chosen specialty.
WORKSHOP PRESENTER
Workshop presenters serve as instructors providing live business training to small business owners. You may be a good fit for this role if you’re a skilled and engaging public speaker, and you have experience teaching skills to different types of learners. If you apply for this role, we will request samples of your presentations, any videos of your speaking engagements and information about your business experience.
VOLUNTEER
SCORE Volunteers work in support of the SCORE mission and vision by handling the administrative and/or leadership responsibilities required to operate a chapter. These roles include but are not limited to:
- Client Intake Coordinator - Receives mentoring requests from clients and pairs them with local experts based on the mentor’s area of expertise. Uses SCORE’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) system regularly to make mentoring assignments, enter data and run reports.
- Admin - Assists with data entry, administrative tasks and customer service. Unlike the other volunteer roles, this position does not require deep business expertise and is ideal for those that are looking for a way to help small businesses through SCORE. In this role, you’ll help connect business owners with SCORE services and resources. You’ll also provide support to your chapter by entering the data needed to better understand and serve our clients.
- Marketing Leader - There are a number of marketing roles available including leadership roles in social media, website maintenance, community outreach, email marketing and fundraising.
- Chapter, District or Regional Leader - Once you’ve had experience in one of our volunteer roles, you can apply to lead a chapter, district or region. These leadership roles oversee the volunteer activities in the local community and develop strategic and operating plans to help serve more small businesses in your area.
